Greenpac Mill, Leading the Way with our Partnerships in Sustainability Series
Leading the Way with our Partnerships in Sustainability Series continues with a look at why it is important to consider how products are made from beginning to end in an environmentally responsible way.
A sustainable approach to strategic planning can mean successful outcomes for businesses as well as the environment. Today’s stakeholders and consumers are more likely than ever to consider environmental and social metrics when assessing a company. Responsible companies have much to consider when making sustainable business decisions.
For Royal Containers, a decade-old decision to invest in Greenpac Mill continues to support sustainability strategies today. Greenpac Mill is one of the largest, newest, and most innovative linerboard facilities in North America.
Greenpac Mill – the largest facility of its kind in North America!
Located in Niagara Falls, New York, Greenpac manufactures a variety of lightweight linerboards with zero waste. Greenpac made a name for itself in the industry with its flagship product, Greenpac XP, which is redefining the packaging industry. This product is the most eco-responsible linerboard on the market, created from recycled fibres and produced with the energy-efficient deconstruction of landfill wastes.
Greenpac can process 1400 tonnes of paper per day. In terms of area, the Greenpac team can cover the equivalency of a football field in a shift! Greenpac is one of the world’s most advanced, environmentally-friendly, 100% recycled paper mills – they prove that ‘zero waste’ in manufacturing IS POSSIBLE.
Why our Partnership is a GREAT fit
The benefits of vertical integration are numerous, but our favourite is that it allows us to partner with like-minded individuals all the while ensuring the sustainable pedigree of all our products. Greenpac Mill boasts high-tech equipment that maximizes sustainable practices. They have a state-of-the-art trimmer that optimizes every inch of paper they produce. When there are unavoidable wastes, they have found alternative uses to divert a significant portion of material going into a landfill. Metal is recycled, and plastic is shipped to a 3rd party steam provider. The steam provider safely burns and disposes of the plastic. Greenpac Mill takes their steam and they, in turn, give them plastic – making it a closed loop and reciprocal relationship. The third recycled waste effort is called fibre regeneration and gives new uses to waste material, such as kitty litter.
Partnerships in Sustainability
Thanks to their high-tech equipment, sustainable manufacturing processes, and high-performance work organization, Greenpac Mill manufactures one of the best linerboards in the industry and is a leader in terms of sustainable development.
At Royal Containers, we know our customers are increasingly looking for sustainable, innovative, and high-quality ecologically-minded products – Greenpac Mill makes it possible to deliver on that promise.
