How Royal Containers Supports Circular Economy in Packaging

How Royal Containers Supports the Circular Economy in Packaging | Royal Containers Corrugated Packaging Solutions, Brampton & St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada

In today’s world, sustainability is more than just a buzzword—it’s necessary. As industries and businesses work toward reducing their environmental impact, the circular economy has become a fundamental principle guiding sustainable practices. Unlike the traditional linear economy, where enterprises use resources and discard them as waste, the circular economy focuses on reusing, recycling, and regenerating materials to extend their lifecycle. This approach helps reduce waste and conserve valuable resources.

At Royal Containers, we proudly support the circular economy by incorporating sustainable practices into every stage of our packaging production process. Let’s explore how we contribute to a more sustainable future.

Royal Containers’ Circular Economy Lifecycle

  1. Greenpac Mill: Turning Recycled Fibres into Eco-friendly Linerboard
Our journey begins at Greenpac Mill, where the team creates eco-friendly linerboards using 100% recycled fibres. By sourcing only recycled materials, Greenpac ensures that valuable resources stay in use instead of ending up in landfills. Using state-of-the-art technology, Greenpac produces lightweight liners made from advanced materials that offer the same strength as traditional liners. Notably, Greenpac operates one of the largest linerboard machines in North America. Their partnership with a steam provider ensures that no plastic or metal waste ends up in landfills, and reject fibres are repurposed as animal bedding. Once the linerboard is made, we ship it to our trusted partner, Tencorr, where it transforms into sustainable packaging.
  2. Tencorr Packaging: Creating Corrugated Sheets
Next, Tencorr combines the linerboard from Greenpac with corrugated medium to produce high-quality corrugated sheets. These sheets form the backbone of our corrugated packaging. Tencorr’s process ensures that we use sustainable materials while producing durable and environmentally friendly packaging. After the sheets are ready, we send them to Royal Containers to create customized packaging for our customers.
  3. Royal Containers: Transforming Sheets into Custom Packaging
At Royal Containers, we turn corrugated sheets into made-to-order, customized packaging that fits our client’s specific needs. Our packaging serves multiple purposes, from protecting goods during transportation to creating eye-catching designs for brand awareness. We focus on providing durable, functional packaging that aligns with sustainable practices, ensuring that our customers receive packaging supporting the circular economy.
  4. Packaging Customer: Using Corrugated Packaging for Goods Transport
Our customers use our versatile corrugated packaging to transport goods efficiently and safely. But the benefits don’t stop there. Packaging also plays a crucial role in promoting brand identity, as businesses can use our designs to make a lasting impression. Customers actively participate in the circular economy by choosing our eco-friendly packaging, contributing to sustainable business practices that align with their values.
  5. Customer: Recycling Packaging and Completing the Loop
After our packaging serves its purpose, the recycling process begins. Our customers return the used corrugated packaging to Greenpac Mill for recycling. The packaging is repurposed into a new linerboard, completing the circular process. Recycling reduces waste and conserves resources, positively impacting the environment. Through recycling, our customers help strengthen the circular economy, ensuring that the materials we use continue to circulate within the system. Royal Containers also returns all scrap clipping and scrap sheets back to Greenpac.

Why the Circular Economy Matters

The shift toward a circular economy is vital for several reasons:

  • Environmental Impact: By recycling and reusing materials, businesses reduce waste and conserve natural resources, which helps lower the carbon footprint. The circular economy is a powerful tool in combating climate change.
  • Resource Efficiency: Extending the lifecycle of materials means we use fewer raw resources and generate less waste. This leads to more sustainable production processes and less reliance on finite materials.
  • Economic Benefits: A circular economy promotes economic growth by opening new opportunities for innovation, cost savings, and sustainable business models. Supporting this approach allows businesses to achieve long-term profitability while contributing to sustainability.

At Royal Containers, we are dedicated to providing high-quality packaging while contributing to a more sustainable future. Our partnerships with Greenpac Mill and Tencorr and our commitment to recycling ensure that we remain active participants in the circular economy.

By choosing Royal Containers, you are investing in packaging with a sustainable lifecycle—one that benefits the environment, the economy, and your business. Together, we can make a lasting impact, one box at a time.
