The AICC heads North:2019 Annual Summit to take place in Toronto

This September, we are excited to host one of a select few plant tours as part of The Independent Packaging Association (AICC) Annual Summit, which will take place this year in the great white North!

Beyond having a Tim Horton’s coffee shop on every corner, Canada’s corrugated and containerboard markets continue to flourish and represent a 6 billion dollar industry in Canada – a fact that we are proud to be a part of and welcome the opportunity to discuss over a “Timmies” with our American counterparts anytime.

Who is the AICC? They are a membership association that has been serving independent corrugated packaging manufacturers and their suppliers since 1974. Offering resources for those in the corrugated and packaging industry like online training, advisory groups, annual meetings, network events and this year during the 2019 Summit, a packaging design competition. We are proud to partner with this association and it’s Canadian branch, AICC Canada, demonstrating our mission statement: ‘Building Partnerships in Packaging’.  Royal Containers has always been a participant in the AICC, with Kim Nelson serving as President of AICC Canada in 2000 and Chairman of AICC international in 2010 and Don Duplantis is presently a member of the AICC Canada board, Education committee.  As the current National Director of AICC Canada, Royal Containers own, Terri-Lynn Levesque, has been integral to the organization of the upcoming Royal Containers Plant Tour during the AICC’s national meeting happening September 16-18th in Toronto.  “I am thrilled we were selected to be a part of the Canadian Plant Tours and look forward to showcasing our latest lean manufacturing program and especially our Obeya Room, to our fellow AICC members. To be a part of their annual summit means you get to work alongside and learn from respected industry professionals in our field and helps to strengthen our existing partnerships in addition to creating new ones.”

The Royal Container plant tour will act as the great reveal of our newly implemented CI program. Earlier this year, Royal Containers invested in a new lean manufacturing program designed to reduce costs and increase productivity without sacrificing quality. The highlight of our tour will be the state-of-the-art Obeya room; modeled after sophisticated manufacturing facilities like those in the Automotive and Aerospace markets. Royal Containers is 1 of only 5 packaging industry facilities in the world to implement an Obeya room. The Obeya room will act as “mission control” for identifying and addressing areas of improvement and the evaluation of our plant and office’s ongoing productivity and effectiveness.

All of the employees here at Royal Containers are looking forward to demonstrating their new and improved “ways of working” with the AICC Summit tour attendees … complete with a Timmies coffee in hand…of course!
