Royal Containers’ Commitment to Sustainability

How a rooftop in Tottenham, Ontario, is generating clean, renewable electricity.
More than 1,000 solar panels line the roof of the Norus Packaging facility in Tottenham, Ontario. While corrugated packaging is produced inside, the roof above generates clean, renewable electricity throughout the year.
As the newest member of the Royal Containers Group of Companies, Norus is known for responsive service and reliable packaging. Its rooftop is now one of the most visible expressions of our commitment to sustainability.
Watch our video for a closer look at Norus Packaging’s rooftop solar installation:

By the Numbers
A solar array of this size can generate an estimated 400,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year, roughly enough to power 40 to 50 typical Ontario homes.
The system produces that energy without fuel, emissions or moving parts. It turns the roof of a 60,000 sq. ft. facility into a productive resource, with output peaking during long summer days and continuing through the winter months.
It is a forward-looking initiative rooted in the Tottenham community, and one we are proud to highlight.
Sustainability Beyond the Box
At Royal Containers, sustainability influences how we think about packaging, materials and manufacturing. The packaging we produce is one part of that responsibility. The facilities, resources and processes behind it also deserve attention.
The solar installation at our Norus facility is a clear example of that approach in practice: a manufacturing facility making full use of the space available to it.
It also reflects two of our core values: We Care and We Lead. Caring means considering the long-term impact of business decisions. Leading means being forerunners in social responsibility and sustainability. The panels at Norus demonstrate both.
Deep Roots in Tottenham
When Norus joined the Royal Containers Group of Companies in June 2026, it brought more than additional manufacturing capacity. It brought over three decades of experience, established customer relationships and a business built on trust, honesty, respect and service.
Under the leadership of Russ Portch and former partner Bill Nobes, Norus built a strong reputation in Tottenham. The solar panels are another part of that legacy.
Today, Norus customers have access to our full range of manufacturing capabilities, vertically integrated operations and packaging resources across every Royal Containers location.
Looking Ahead Together
Progress is rarely the result of a single decision. It comes from consistent, practical choices: using resources responsibly, identifying opportunities to improve and following through.
As Royal continues to grow, our commitment to service, innovation and sustainability remains the same at every location. At Norus, that commitment is visible from the rooftop.
Building Partnerships in Packaging means growing together and planning for the future. The solar panels at Norus are one more part of that story.
