Royal Containers ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System

Royal Containers ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System

ISO 9001:2015 – A Jewel in Royal’s Crown

When it comes to world standards, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the largest and most recognized evaluator of quality, safety, and efficiency in manufacturing.  ISO standards criteria are exacting, to be sure, but as our leadership team and employees have learned in earning ISO certifications, they are a means to best practices and processes that give form to quality in all we do.

Like other companies, becoming ISO certified at Royal Containers has meant implementing repeatable processes to achieve our goals and objectives.  But along the way, we are finding that the greatest upshot has been the creation of Royal’s culture of self-improvement,  heightened employee awareness, and leadership commitment.

Royal Containers has always taken pride in providing exceptional customer satisfaction by delivering quality products.  In an ever-changing market, ISO strategies are connecting us to a framework to ensure the consistency of the quality of our corrugated cartons and displays.  It’s a forward-looking way of thinking that our President, Kim Nelson incorporated back in 1994 with her strategy to not only achieve the mark of ISO 9002 then but also make plans to implement the 2000 version.

Certification also assures that, at a company level, a Quality Management System (QMS) is functioning to its full potential, which means your processes are running efficiently and effectively.  We can now say that we are meeting our customer requirements as well as statutory and regulatory requirements.  Moreover, because the examination does not stop there, the entire process dictates the continued focus on the needs of our customers and other stakeholders.

To maintain a robust and comprehensive quality system, a developed and monitored framework for the QMS must be fully operational at all times.  The pay-off includes streamlined processes and certainty about expectations.  A framework can also improve efficiency and encourage progress while a company grows – we learned this in real-time with Royal’s expansion in St. Thomas.

When Royal was faced with an opportunity to move, modernize and expand its western operations, it coincided with a renewed vision of quality.  In November 2020, we undertook an effort to implement and develop policies and procedures that would update our previous QMS affecting both locations in Brampton and St. Thomas.

By May 2021, Royal Containers in Brampton achieved certification under the new ISO 9001:2015 standard. In June 2022, Royal Containers successfully completed the ISO Surveillance Audit of our Brampton location. Also, we achieved huge success in certifying our newest location in St. Thomas. In the most recent audit, both Brampton and St. Thomas locations resulted in a final report with zero non-conformances being issued which is a great achievement for Royal Containers.

Achieving  ISO 9001:2015 compliance from a certification body accredited by ISO’s Board of Registrars reinforces the magnitude of Royal’s commitment to quality assurance.

Preparing to update to the ISO 9001:2015 standard was an objective embraced by our entire Leadership Team. This hard work is well worth it now and, with continued application, will yield dividends well into the future.
